Mint Tools

mintUpload (implementation phase finished)

  • SCP and SFTP support (implemented)

mintMenu (implementation phased finished)

  • Implemented and backported to Elyssa/Felicia:
    • Show release version and edition as tooltip on the main button (implemented and backported to Elyssa/Felicia)
  • Implemented in Gloria
    • Trash icon should indicate whether trash is empty or not. And right click option to empty it should be present. (implemented in version 4.3.1)
    • Pre-fill favorites (implemented in version 4.3.2)
    • Merge key binding feature from latest USP: http://www.google.com/codesearch/p?hl=en#SLF9BAmaBjI/ubuntu-system-panel/usr/bin/usp&q=binding%20package:http://ubuntu-system-panel\.googlecode\.com&l=810 (implemented in 4.3.3)
      • Default hotkey is the left Super key (Windows key) -- configurable in the preferences (only takes effect after restarting the menu)
      • Menu hides itself if Escape or Windows key is pressed
    • "mintmenu" command to run mintMenu in debug mode from a terminal (implemented in 4.3.3)
    • When filtering gives no results, show an option to search and or install the software. "Search application xxx", "Search package xxx", "Show package xxx", "Install package xxx"..etc. (implemented in version 4.3.4)

mintUpdate (implementation phase finished)

  • Show download sizes (implemented in mintUpdate 3.3)
  • Fix changelog for mint packages (implemented)
  • Status icon while checking for updates should not blink (implemented)
  • Fix resize problem (implemented)

mintSystem (implementation phase finished)

  • apt purge is broken (implemented in v6.2)
  • apt source shoudn't use sudo (implemented in v6.2)
  • add "apt version" (implemented)
  • adjustment init script (implemented)

  • convert meta-data to Mint 7 (implemented via mint-info-gloria-main)

mintInstall (implementation phase finished)

  • "Popular applications" dialog --> let the user install Opera, Google Earth, Picasa, Virtualbox..etc from a single dialog window. (implemented)
  • Show size info when package size is available (implemented)
  • Improve GUI layout (implemented)
  • Show full descriptions (implemented)
  • Make screenshots and mint files optional - downloadable when needed. (implemented)
  • Have data shared among users with writable tmp directory instead of using /home (implemented)

mintWelcome (implementation phase finished)

  • change mintAssistant to a welcoming app, no menu item, just a command line launcher. Starts for each new user on 1st login and until checkbox is ticked... Shows links to user guide, website, donations, forums, IRC client, release notes, software manager and what's new page. In liveCD mode, instruct about installation and live environment. (implemented)

mintDesktop (implementation phase finished)

  • remove splash restoration (implemented)
  • simplified GUI (implemented)

All mint tools (implementation phase finished)

  • launchable from command line (implemented)
  • auto-switch between gksu and kdesudo (implemented)
  • dependency on mintsystem for GPL and version in about dialog (implemented)

  • Graphics drivers: trouble with Intel GPU
