I would say no to just the fiesty repositories of mint upgrading automatically.
When mint 3 comes out I would say yes to all the repositories in mint upgrading automatically and so mint upgrading.

mint is not just ubuntu with some extra packages it is a distro in itself.

Clem would be the best person to answer this question though.

:D

Cassandra will use Feisty as its package base, so the upgrade from Bianca to Cassandra will involve upgrading Bianca's edgy base to Cassandra's Feisty base, so in theory you could already upgrade the base to feisty... now if you want to be safe you'll wait for the release of Cassandra.

Not necessarily.. we usually post a tutorial to upgrade and it usually consists in a few simple steps. But still, there's nothing better than a fresh install and a dedicated /home partition.

Then I might get my scanner problem solved - I don't think it'll happen else

Feisty a slower animal?

Post by capricornus »

It's just an impression: with 7.04 installed under Mint, everything seems to go slower. While it should be faster...
And imagine a problem with 8 pc's in my home: it means 8x 760 MB download, while in Flanders we pay € 5.00 per 5 GB extra (Belgacom)!
Clem, we are eager to install LinuxMint 3.0. May the Gods provide you with a lots of energy and goodwill.

With a new install you lose email history, favorites and much more.
No - you don't - unless you want to. Backup to another disk or CD/DVD or follow the tutorial in the wiki on how to move home to its own partition

Windows is extremely fast after a fresh install. If you want to make it stay that way: - don't use it.

I don't need to. This thing is well-known. :D Only you seem to be new to this concept? :?

To make it short: proper partitioning is king

Partitioning - UNIX-style (complicated but totally worth it):

Partitioning - simplified scheme (probably more suited for the average home user?): http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... =2198#2198
