Re: Carbon Mint - Updated
The logo seems a little too small.
The from freedom came elegance is way too small.

...nice, but what's up with the lens flare, against a carbon background...
Looks odd to me...
Otherwise, a classic that refuses to die!

Re: Carbon Mint - Updated
We're getting really close to perfection here...
Can I suggest a tiny little final thing?
Can we play with the position/direction of the lens flare to avoid the light to create circles? Ideally I'd like the light to diffuse from behind the logo but if possible without creating too many light circles (especially the wide ones). I guess this can also done by reducing the light from the lens flare.. (I'm not sure). The background being darker (as an eventual result) isn't a problem, a darker overall background might even be better (again, I'm not sure here..).
Thanks for your work on this Jernau. I'm amazed at how fast you did that and how accurate this v5 reflects what I had in mind.. I'm seriously impressed !!
Merlwiz: The great thing with Jernau's Carbon is that we've got 5 variations of it, in all aspects/resolutions, and for both the green and blue logos. We even have a variation with reflection, which you used to make the Grub's message.elyssa btw. Have a look at Carbon One, the logo on it is bigger.
Note: The current BETA of Elyssa uses Fedora 9's countdown on top of Jernau's Global Domination for it's isolinux. The menu is a semi-transparent green NASA-like text-mode menu. It doesn't look "pro" but it seriously looks "cool". I don't know if it will be final. I'm planning on leaving it there for the BETA release and then eventually make isolinux match the selected default theme.

Carbon Mint v5.01:

Instead of creating a v6 I thought it would be best to make these (and any further) adjustments by overwriting v5.

No problem, it's my pleasure to help where I can.clem wrote:Thanks for your work on this Jernau.
Sounds very cool - I'm looking forward to seeing it.clem wrote:Note: The current BETA of Elyssa uses Fedora 9's countdown on top of Jernau's Global Domination for it's isolinux.

On second look I thought that the light-rays around the logo were a little 'messy' in v5.01 - so in v5.02 I tidied them up, completely removed the lens flare, and added a subtle glow behind the logo text.

I didn't think you could make this one better, but you could!

Looks even better.
I still say the logo is to small, but the older users can use bifocals, I guess.
It hurts my eyes trying to read it, but I normally don't sit around reading the wallpaper.
This is great work, other than that.

I forgot there is one wallpaper with my signature as the logo.Zwopper wrote:Check Merlwiz' signatureJernau wrote:I thought XFCE CE used the main logo?Zwopper wrote:Cool!
Why don't you put the Mint XFCE logo on it as well and it will be purrrrrfect!

Re: Carbon Mint - Updated
Just to let you know that the artwork was finalized in Elyssa Main and that:
- isolinux is using Global Domination (might change in stable release)
- grub is using Merlwiz's message.elyssa, made of Carbon v3 (reflection)
- usplash is using Carbon v5.02
- gnome-splash is using Carbon v5.02 (although it's invisible by default in Elyssa)
- the desktop is using Carbon v5.02
- GDM is using Carbon v5.02
So this release's artwork is basically 100% signed by Jernau
Great work!
Clem
PS: I'm happy with the ISO (build #027) in terms of design. I'll be testing it tomorrow and if my tests succeed it will then go to Exploder for further testing. We're getting really close to a BETA release so you'll be able to appreciate all that pretty soon.

I love this wallpapers, but I would consider Zwopper's "Pinstripe" works as an alternative; they are really magnificent (especially version 3): http://linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=12141
A dark set and a colorful set in Elyssa would be so nice, don't you agree Clem?
