Grub Splash outdated
I just took one of the Zen wallpapers and changed it so that grub can load it now as a splash screen.
If someone can give me a link to upload it I'll put it online.
The image isn't two tone like it shows in this screenshot, my camera is a bit cheap, and the image looks better more like the original.

Ok a blog for us PC Geeks! WoOt
Splash image is here:
http://realpcgeeks.blogspot.com/
P.S. The splash is 640x480, my understanding is that's the size you make them, like one size fits all. Let me know how it works for you on different size resolutions.
What's wrong man you still don't understand?Husse wrote:Looks great....
Who unpacks the image?
The grub slaves?
You asked before, and I said you don't extract the image.
LEAVE IT GUNZIPPED !
The HOWTO explained everything you needed to do, all you needed to do was read it, and follow it.
Now what's so complicated about that?
Here's the HOWTO:
Follow these steps below:
-------------------------
First we'll make the directory for your splash images
sudo mkdir /boot/grub/images
Next copy the image to the directory you just made.
sudo cp mint-splash.xpm.gz /boot/grub/images
Next change to the boot/grub directory
cd /boot/grub
We're going to make a symlink.
*** (Note)****
Make a link like this each time you want to change the splash images, which is easier then editing the grub/menu.lst each time.
ln -s /boot/grub/images/mint-splash.xpm.gz splash.xpm.gz
Edit the grub/menu.lst
sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
Add these two lines to menu.lst
## Splash image
splashimage (hdX,X)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
Change X X in (hdX,X) to reflect your /root path
If you're not sure, then scroll down in the menu.lst, and look for the line below, and use the information found in "root".
In this example you'd use (hd0,3)
title Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.17-11-generic
root (hd0,3)

Yepp - dead link. This was a while ago and I don't think I've seen any posts from DasFox after this...
PS At that time I was really new to Linux (and I still am - but have learned a heck of a lot since then ) so I did not understand how powerful Grub is - it's almost a mini operating system of its own

Re: Grub Splash
Hello!
followed the guide, but the splash remains the same as came with Mint.
I've also tried a guide from ubuntuforums.
Why does it not change?

Mint now uses gfxgrub by default
And since my first post in this topic I've learned that grub is really powerful
Sadly dasFox did not have humor it seems and the link to the blog is dead

Hey I've got HUMOR and I'm back!
SORRY for all those in the past that had problems!
Actually humor wasn't the problem, I just stopped using Linux because it didn't have the tools I needed, but I'm back on the forums for now and using Helena and loving it!
Maybe now I'll make some more Grub screens!
PEACE

Oh - this is a really old topic, brings up some posts from when I knew less than now
And now we have grub2 - a mystery in it's own

Re: Grub Splash outdated
Thanks Husse, well if Mint wants to follow Ubuntu somewhat they use the .tga format for the grub splash images.Husse wrote:Oh - this is a really old topic, brings up some posts from when I knew less than now

Welcome back DasFox
I'll make up a few and explain how, it's not difficult...
