SUCCESS!!!
I was able to successfully compile the ath9k driver into the linux 27rc3 kernel using Kevmitch's Debian instructions http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_in ... n_of_atk9k (slightly modified for Linux Mint 4/Ubuntu Gutsy). I'm experiencing the false reading 1 Mb/s bug, but my D-Link DWA-552 is working with the ath9k driver. Right now the connection speed seems similar to the Ndiswrapper 1.53 and madwifi (when it was working) connection that I have experienced, but I'm sure that will change as the driver is improved and true N speeds will be available. The driver seems to connect to my router faster with the ath9k drivers and the connection seems to be more stable than the Ndiswrapper solution. Thanks to all for their efforts to get this driver functioning.
Now I have this working wireless hybrid Mint 4/Ubuntu Gutsy OS with a 27rc3 kernel - fixing the screen resolution and sound were challenging; my Nvidia card caused/is causing some problems and reloading Alsa for sound was a gdm nightmare...
